How many energy storage devices can a port configure?

Energy storage devices are limited in the amount of power they can store and charging power cannot exceed their maximum storage capacity. In this paper, it is assumed that if the port chooses to configure its energy storage devices, it can only select one type of energy storage device and will not choose more than that.

Why do ports need energy storage devices?

The demand for electricity at ports can also be affected by shipping schedules and other operations (e.g., storage and office activities), resulting in peaks and troughs in electricity load demand. This, in turn, may require the installation of energy storage devices to regulate fluctuations in the electricity supply and demand of a PRES.

Why is energy storage a critical port function?

Ensuring availability of these electrical resources to meet loads which are intermittent and uncertain is becoming a critical port function. It requires investment in multi-vector energy supply chains, energy storage in ports and their associated energy management systems.
